You have decided on your used car model and you have shortlisted a number of ones you would like to view. What comes next is the critical stage; get it wrong and you could end up with an expensive mistake; get it right and you could have a real bargain.

If you really do not know anything about cars apart from a leaning towards a particular model as long as it is painted your favourite colour, then it really is quite a risk to buy a car from a private seller, particularly if the seller is a stranger. We all would like to trust our fellow humans, but experience teaches us that to do so is not always wise.

The safest way to buy a used car is from a reputable franchised dealership. It is essential to such a dealership that it maintains its reputation and the last thing that that it wants to do is to tarnish this by selling dodgy cars. Should such a dealership find that they are saddled with such a car, for instance as the result of a part exchange, they are more likely pass it on to another dealer or car auction than to sell it to you.

If you want to be even safer, then you can restrict your search to manufacturer approved cars from the franchised dealer. These will have gone through strenuous tests designed to select only quality examples and they will be sold with what is effectively a new car guarantee. Naturally you will have to pay a little more, maybe 10% to 20%, but you can be confident that you are buying a good car.

The middle of the road way is to buy the car from an independent trader, If you want to have a look at some visit Motors. This way you will at least have a reasonable amount of legal protection. It is against the law for such a dealer to sell a car that is not fit for purpose or is not correctly described. This means that they are obliged to point out to you any problems that they know of. Should they fail to do so, you can legally demand a refund.

When you are travelling with a child passenger it is very important that the correct child restraints are used. Trying to use ordinary adult safety belts is extremely dangerous. The safest place for a child to travel is in the rear of the car and the child must be accommodated in a child seat. The law requires that all children with a height of 1.35 meters or less and 12 years old or younger must use the correct child restraint. Once they exceed these then that are required to wear an adult safety belt. The driver of the car is considered to be responsible for ensuring that these requirements are carried out until the child reaches 14 years of age.

If your car is fitted with air bags then you must never install a rear facing child seat on the front passenger seat unless you are able to switch off the front passenger seat airbag. On some car models you can do this yourself but sometimes it is necessary for it to be carried out by the car dealer.

It is also important that the correct child seat is used and that the car can accommodate it in the recommended position. This information is generally available from both the car manufacturer and the manufacturer of the car seat.

Not all child seats are the same and different child seats perform differently in different models of car. Euro NCAP carries out car safety tests on new car models on a voluntary basis; one particular set of crash tests concerns child safety and how well children passengers are protected from injury. These tests are carried out using the specific child seats that the car manufacturer has recommended.

Before 2009 each car received a star rating for child safety, with the best rating being five stars. The rating depends on a number of factors, which include the seat’s fitting instructions and how well the car can accommodate them, as well as how well they perform in protecting the child in the case of front and side collisions. From 2009 onwards a new scheme has been used. This awards an overall car safety rating which is composed of ratings for child protection, adult occupation, pedestrian protection and safety assist. The moral of the story is always check the saftey rating when eigher buy new or used cars.

First introduced in the U.S. in 1989, Toyota Motors’ luxury vehicle division Lexus has become one of the highest-selling makers of luxury cars in the world. One of its concept cars, the Lexus LFA, is a two-seater sports coupe, a “halo” vehicle and a racing prototype. It premiered in 2005 as LF-A (dash included), coming out again in 2007 with a more furnished exterior and interior. Its third version premiered in 2008 and its production model, now the LFA (dash not included), was shown in October 2009 at the Tokyo Motor Show. The new 2011 Lexus LFA features a brand-new V10 engine. Carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) makes up 65% of the vehicle’s body mass. Its production has been scheduled to begin in late 2010 and the projected spate of 500 vehicles is estimated to sell for $350,000 to $375,000.

The Lexus LFA’s stats? 552 horsepower, 354 lb.-ft. of torque, pumped out via its 4.8-liter engine pumps. In 3.7 seconds you can go from 0 to 100 km/h, your top speed reaching up to as high as 325 km/h.

It has a carbon-fiber and aluminum chassis tub, six-speed sequential manual transmission, an all-aluminum multilink suspension, and Bridgestone Potenza rubber and BBS forged alloys specifically and specially designed for it. Aside from those, it has a speed-controlled rear wing, carbon-ceramic brake discs, a carbon-fiber underbody, amultistage titanium muffler, and a bunch of other things which may be alien terms to you. You get the idea though, right? AWESOME CAR.

Compared to other cars of the same caliber, the Lexus LFA fares better than most of them. The Audi V10 R8 obtains its 0-100 km/h time in 3.9 seconds, its top speed being only 315 km/h. The SLS AMG achieves its 0-100 km/h time in 3.8 seconds, its top speed. The Lexus LFA is more expensive than most other super cars, yes, but its maker has ensured that none of that cost spent on it is put to waste with its speed, materials, and features.

As magnificent as the new Lexus LFA V10 is according to the aforementioned data, it is always best to get to know the car personally. Research about it and other cars you might be interested in at Carseek.com. The website has information on virtually any car that you might be interested in, even very helpful details regarding auto insurance.

Australian Lexus has announced plans to grow its Australian dealer network by more than 50 per cent by 2012. To do so, the luxury carmaker’s Australian dealers will commit $230 million AUD towards new and existing dealer facilities and sites over the next four years.
“Lexus locally is in growth mode,” said Lexus Australia chief executive John Roca. “Demand for our vehicles regularly outstrips supply and our dealerships in their current format are reaching their capacity limits. Lexus’ success comes from satisfied customers. Over the next four years, Lexus dealer facilities will be given a new face – one that welcomes customers even more and makes them feel as though they are guests in our home”. The first of these so called, new-look sites, Lexus of Perth, opened in March and it showcases the new retail face for Lexus dealerships.

Lexus is planning a host of new models to help keep the momentum going. First up is the replacement for the RX crossover, but after this comes a host of new ‘F’ performance models including a production version of the LF-A supercar concept as well as a new entry-level model.

Lexus will expand its F range to include a performance version of the GS sedan and possibly the full-size LS limo.

In addition to the performance range, Lexus will add a model below the IS to rival the BMW 1-series and Audi A3 models but stated that it was still a few years away. In the meantime, Roca explained that Lexus will concentrate on its hybrid technology and is planning to add a hybrid option on every model as well as debut a new dedicated hybrid concept at next year’s Detroit Auto Show.

Next year will see the launch of the next-generation RX crossover, based on the LF-Xh concept, as well as a new coupe-cabrio version of the IS complete with a folding metal hardtop.

The LF-A supercar is destined for production and hinted at a 2011 launch date.

In trying to establish a Japanese-market foothold for Lexus, Toyota has seemingly fallen prey to the same tactic that made the Cadillac Cimmaron such a maroon. When trying to launch a brand, especially an upscale brand, it’s not advisable to rebadge existing models and crank up the price. It doesn’t seem to matter how good the car is, or how swanky the new $10-million-a-pop showroom is, once an Altezza, always an Altezza, and paying 20 percent more for the same car with a different logo is rightfully galling.

Still, few are giving up on Lexus in Japan. After all, Toyota has 45% of the car market there, it has built 160 plush Lexus dealerships at an estimated cost of $10 million each, and it has booked tons of prime-time TV ad slots. Most important, Lexus added the latest version of its flagship, the $77,000-plus LS sedan, to its lineup in September, 2006. Last year it accounted for more than half of Lexus sales in Japan.

Toyota says Lexus’ fortunes are improving. In the segments where Lexus competes, the company claims it outsells German rivals. Mercedes’ numbers, Toyota notes, include its A-class small car, and BMW sales figures count two SUVs. Lexus doesn’t sell an SUV in Japan, though the mid-size RX is due in 2009. And Lexus last year topped buyer surveys by researcher J.D. Power & Associates (MHP). “It’s going to take Lexus three to five years to create a brand image to rival Audi, BMW, or Mercedes,” says Hiroaki Kihara, editor of magazine Autocar Japan. “But they took many years to establish their brands in Japan, too.”
